Angela wished to honor her mother by using the lace from the vintage wedding gown to add on her own gown as well as create a new veil. After Angela had her seamstress remove the lace needed to embellish her wedding gown, we met to discuss what she had envisioned for her veil. Angela loved the hem lace from the gown, so we designed a veil that would compliment and frame her but not be too busy. We opted to have a thin ribbon edge from the top of the veil to the fingertip, and then start the lace. This way, the lace wouldn't be a distraction around Angela's face, and allow her to shine.
To get started, I needed to remove the lace from the gown, and then give it a good cleaning. Since it was from the hem of the gown, it had been dragged on the floor during the wedding and reception, and then stored as-is for the past 30+ years. Luckily, it cleaned and brightened beautifully! Almost looking brand new again. Once the lace was prepared, I set to work placing it around the edge of the veil. Angela and I worked together to adjust and refine the small detail where the lace met the ribbon edge.
The final product was something that seamlessly combined a modern style veil with the vintage lace. The overall design perfectly framed Angela's bridal look, almost like her mom was there surrounding her with love.
