Allison brought in this beautiful family heirloom for minor adjustments. Her item had a cathedral length scalloped edge veil with lace appliques around the edge and bottom and attached blusher. The veil was attached to a lace headpiece embellished with pearls. Allison loved the veil, but wished to have it on a standard comb and add some sparkle. By the end of our consultation we decided to remove the blusher and main headpiece, clean the veil, add some sparkles, and make a small headpiece for her mom to wear.
The main veil lightened up nicely after a gentle cleaning, and I was able to remove just enough lace from the headpiece for a small comb without completely destroying the main headpiece. One of my goals when working on heirlooms is to preserve as much of the original as possible, and honor the legacy of the item while still transforming it into a more modern piece. Any parts that are not used are always returned to the bride for use in other projects, for other family members, or as a keepsake.
After adding some small mirror-backed-crystals to the lace appliques on the veil, it was ready for pickup! It's amazing how some small changes make a big difference in the overall feel of the items!
